I am an experienced midwife (qualified in 2000 in UK) and mother providing a postnatal doula service for women in the Adelaide Hills and Eastern Suburbs.

I created Adelaide Hills Postnatal Support because supporting women as they make the drastically life altering journey into motherhood lies at the very heart of what I love most about midwifery. When we emigrated from England, we started a family and now have two

Susannah Bryant (Postnatal Doula)

lovely girls aged six and three. I haven’t practiced midwifery since I became a Mum. I chose to stay at home for my children’searly years, mainly because I wanted to, but also because shift work was impossible with my husband's work schedule. Furthermore, I didn’t want to lose my autonomy working in the Australian hospital system.

Now that my husband is based permanently in Adelaide, I am ready to return to work. I do miss midwifery, but not the working conditions! By practicing as a doula I can balance the needs of my own family with serving my clients and can continue to nurture women at this amazing time of their lives.

As our community bonds have been eroded, becoming a mother can be, for many women, a very lonely and overwhelming experience. A postnatal doula can go at least part way to replace the community support that we generally lack. By mothering you, a doula helps you to be the best mother that you can be.

I can offer help with: establishing breastfeeding, solving common and more complex breastfeeding problems, settling techniques (not controlled crying!), emotional support in adjusting to your new roles as parents, debriefing post birth, cooking, housework, errands, shopping, care of other siblings, care of pets. Occasional overnight stays available for regular clients. I can visit before your baby is born to plan care and provide breastfeeding education or I can be booked after your baby is born if you find you need a bit more help than anticipated. Please visit my website and facebook page for lots more info. I can also be found on findadoula and

Please note, this is not midwifery service and I do not attend births as I have let my registration lapse whilst being a stay at home Mum
