Some women in South Australia can access a free homebirth through hospital-run midwifery programs. These are offered through midwifery group practices in three of our major hospitals, in which women are given a choice of birth place including birth-centres and homebirth. You will need to check whether you live within the catchment area and meet the eligibility criteria to be able to use this service.
These programs are only for women whose pregnancies are low risk according to the Departmnt of Health SA Policy for Planned Birth At Home, and are only available if you live within a certain hospital catchment area. CLICK HERE to read more about the eligibility criteria of these homebirth programs
Places are usually limited in these programs so its important to book early.
